Logistics operations in the High North

The resources are in the Arctic but the growing market is in the Far East. In order to access the offshore oil, gas and mineral deposits, the harsh climate, long distances and lacking infrastructure require new logistics systems and solutions, therefore there will be a growing demand for new sustainable and efficient maritime logistics systems (ship and equipment, infrastructure, operation, organization, contractual regimes/ maritime jurisdiction, etc.)
More international activity will create a need for new rules, regulation and standards for design and operation of ships and ships equipment. Better decision support systems will be required in order to reduce the uncertainty/risk involved in establishing and operating logistics systems in the region.

The need for efficient and sustainable logistics infrastructure requires cross disciplinary
attention and a complex international research.

The main scope of the project is to develop and analyze maritime logistics systems for three different industrial categories focusing on commercial and environmental performance and the robustness of the system.
